Project Overview: Friston Forest

As part of SSAP, we excavated some sites in Friston Forest.

Description: Excavation and recording of two pairs of anti-aircraft light machine gun (AALMG) emplacements sited to defend Friston Airfield from low-level attack.

Constructed using sections of buried concrete sewage pipe, one pair of pipes was fully excavated and left open, while the other pair was only partly excavated and backfilled. Mountings for twin Browning .303 machine guns were evident in each pair.
